  • Central Indiana Chapter – ASA Adopts a “New” Logo

The Central Indiana Chapter-Autism Society of America (CIC-ASA) is an organization whose sole purpose is to help people living with autism, in one form or another, in Central Indiana. Earlier this year, CIC-ASA set out to create an identity program for itself in an attempt to distinguish it from other local organizations of the same purpose.

In a departure from traditional logos of its kind, the new CIC-ASA logo would combine not just the characteristics of autism but also of the organization itself. The result is an identity that sets the CIC-ASA apart from other organizations of its kind. The new logo, which features a child-like figure emerging—arms outstretched—from darkness, is a symbol of hope and support. The shape of the darkness, which subtly resembles a heart, giving the mark a distinctly midwestern look, is jagged, a contrast to the smooth lines of the emerging child-like figure.

These motifs — dark to light, jagged to smooth — are in reference to the disorder, autism, and the way many people have described its effect on their children. The color of the logo, a dark purple with red undertones, is meant to convey compassion, another characteristic of the CIC-ASA organization.
